Lib Dems on the rise in West Lancs...

March 11, 2021 12:02 PM

Speaking in the wake of this year's West Lancs Council budget settlement, local Lib Dem spokesperson David Thomas has criticised the Conservative government for failing to provide more support for council services, which have been hit hard by the pandemic.

"Now is the time when the Conservative government should be reversing previous cuts and providing more financial assistance to local councils who are having to spend more on vital community services because of the pandemic", he said. "Instead, we hear they are planning to cut council budgets further".

"Whilst we would have liked to have seen more being spent on areas like housing and the environment, we recognise the constraints under which the council is operating, because of government cuts. And we agree that the council tax rise should be kept as low as possible at the moment; this is not the time to be adding to the financial burden of already hard-pressed householders and families, many of whom have had their incomes reduced because of the pandemic
