Tim Farron visits Leyland

April 12, 2021 10:49 AM

Former Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron, MP for Westmoreland and Lonsdale, was on his old stompimg ground in Leyland recently helping local Lib Dem candidate Paul Valentine in his campaign to be the new councillor for St Ambrose ward.

Tim, himself a former Leyland councillor, spent an afternoon knocking on doors and listening to residents with the St Ambrose Lib Dem campaign team. It was particulalrly special for Tim because, for him, this was where his political career started, under the experienced eye of then St Ambrose councillor Neva Orrell.

"Neva Orrell was my greatest hero", said Tim. "In 1949 she joined the Liberals. She spent the next 53 years of her life being the greatest servant that her community in Leyland had ever known".

Paul commented "It was great to have Tim here. It was a real reminder of the strength the Liberal Democrats once had in Leyland, and an inspiration to us to try and ensure that those days of Liberal Democrat strength and community service in Leyland return". Paul and Tim
