Ormskirk, Aughton and Halsall

  • Are in the West Lancashire Parliamentary Constuency - the boundaries of which define the overall area of the Liberal Democrats new West Lancashire group.

  • Local Government Administration is the West Lancashire Borough Council, which sadly has no Liberal Democrat representation at the moment, however:

  • Local Government Elections take place in May 2020; when we plan to stand candidates in as many of our wards as possible, partculary targeting Aughton, Derby, Downholland, Halsall, Knowsley and Scott (Aughton Park will not be contested).

  • Our West Lancashire Liberal Democrat Steering Group usually meets in Ormskirk (conveniently central in the borough and constituency areas) on the second Tuesday of each month.

On 7th May, the local government elections will be the first test of national opinion since the General Election of 2019. On West Lancashire Borough Council, seats in 18 wards will be contested. The Liberal Democrats are determined not to let the Conservative and Labour parties have their wicked way. That is why we aim to stand in as many of these seats as possible, ranging from Hesketh-with- Becconsall in the North, to Bickerstaffe in the South, and Wrightington in the East to Halsall in the West. Whether you are an existing member or supporter, or want to get involved, contact David Thomas to find out more about standing in the Local Elections for the Liberal Democrats.

The first act of newly re-elected Labour West Lancashire MP, Rosie Cooper, has been to vote with Boris Johnson's Tory Majority government to support the second reading of the European Union Withdrawal Agreement Bill at second reading. Only six Labour MPs in the whole country voted with Boris Johnson's Conservative Government to 'Get Brexit Done'.

Following Sajid Javid's recent interview that there will be no regulatory alignment with the European Union after Brexit, Simon Thomson, the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesman for West Lancashire, has criticised the Government's approach.

Simon said: "'Sajid Javed is not taking account of the problems his stance will cause for those heavily regulated businesses which export their goods to Europe, whether these be in Ormskirk, West Lancashire or the country as a whole. In the Chemical industry for example, approximately 60% of our exports are to Europe whilst 70% of our chemical imports are sourced from European suppliers.
